Averra Properties announced a new Built Green™ BC project, a duplex located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Built Green is a new voluntary building standard program in the city of Vancouver that incorporates resource-efficient technologies into the structure of the home.
"We must start to think of our homes as an operational system, and design them in such a way that allows for energy efficiency while at the same time providing a healthy climate controlled living space for generations to come," said Averra partner Gavin McLeod in a statement.
The duplex project will have an open concept living space with high ceilings, vaulted master bedrooms, skylights and Energy Star® appliances and recycled stone countertops. The homes will be completed this fall.
"We know that Built Green homes have direct benefits not only for the homeowner but also the immediate neighborhood and surrounding communities as well,” said Averra Partner Karen Dunlap in a statement. “With families of our own we are putting a personal perspective into our project's design and construction."
Green technologies, including efficient heating and ventilation systems, green building materials, on-demand hot water systems and green roofs, improve the energy efficiency of the home while reducing its carbon footprint.
"We are particularly excited about these new homes as it will be one of the most forward thinking sustainable developments of its kind to date in Vancouver, and the first of many more,” said Averra Partner Guy Taylor. “We are convinced that this is the direction home construction in Vancouver is going."
