LCS Constructors announced this week that it had completed the construction of ExxonMobil’s new quality assurance laboratory in Torrance, CA. The Construction firm worked with architects at TomkoWoll to design and develop the project.

The 10,000 sq. ft. single story facility consists of a quality assurance lab, which will allow for testing of the refinery’s wide range of petroleum projects before they are distributed into the marketplace.

"While we believed LCS represented the best solution for the project, it was gratifying to have that belief validated by a company of ExxonMobil's stature," said Stephen Metzger, Executive Vice President and General Manager of LCS' West Coast construction operations.

According to the press release, the new facility follows the latest standards for laboratories by using energy efficient lighting, electrical, and mechanical design. The lab also incorporates design features that enable the efficient use of work space and allow for a hands-free work environment.

This project offered special design challenges with a mixture of strict industrial standards integrated with the latest commercial techniques. The press release notes that the biggest concern throughout this project was safety and ExxonMobil has stringent safety protocols at all its facilities, particularly refineries. "LCS shares ExxonMobil's goal that 'Nobody Gets Hurt' and followed our own safety guidelines throughout the project," said Bob Wiggins, senior project manager for LCS.

Groundbreaking for the project was back in April, 2009, after extensive planning and designing. LCS has completed more than 3,000 laboratories and technical facilities nationwide and was proud to complete the new lab and participate in ExxonMobil's future growth.
