ECC and Navy break ground on Recruiting Battalion project
A $4 million, 11,000 sq. ft. recruiting battalion is scheduled to be completed by May 2011
ECC and the Navy broke ground earlier this week to celebrate the construction of a new $4 million, 11,000 sq. ft. US Army New England Recruiting Battalion at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. The design-bid-build project is scheduled for completion by May 2011 and us being executed under a Multiple Award Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity Contract with the Navy.
"ECC employees have been living and working in New England communities for many years," stated ECC Program Director Stuart Kibbee in the press release. "We are proud to offer a sustainably-built recruiting facility in the region for our military clients, so they can carry out their mission to recruit young men and women to serve our country."
The Recruiting Battalion will be constructed within Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) criteria with an anticipated Silver certification. The building’s construction, long-term operations and maintenance will have environmental sustainability in the forefront.
The Battalion’s operation center will include classrooms, administrative offices, automated data processing rooms, conference rooms, and cafeteria, among others. Force protection measures will also be implemented, such as blast proof doors, lighting and glass.
Ceremony attendees included Captain Bryant Fuller, Commander, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard; Commander Rod Moore, Public Works Officer, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard; Lt. Colonel Patrick Mackin, Commander, U.S. Army New England Recruiting Battalion; as well as staff representatives of several Maine and New Hampshire Senators and Representatives; members of the Army's New England Recruiting Battalion; and Naval Facilities Engineering Command staff stationed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
Established in 1985, ECC is an employee-owned company that provides a complete range of services to support its clients' needs, including engineering, design-build, environmental remediation, construction and munitions response capabilities.
