People who work in harsh or hazardous environments now have an extra safety measure to add to their arsenal. Sonim Technologies, the manufacturer of rugged mobile phones, and SafeLinQ, the provider of mobile location-based products, have joined forces to offer workers a Lone Worker monitoring solution that acts as a lifeline between the worker and home base.
If a worker finds himself in a hairy situation, he can send a distress signal including “FIRE” and “MAN STUCK” through the innovative Sonim XP3 SENTINEL phone. The software in the phone sends the worker’s GPS location through GPRS or SMS to and Emergency Monitoring Center. Additionally, the software can detect the type of fall (impact, tilt, free-fall, non-movement) and offers the option of status messages notifying the monitoring center of the progress or positioning of the worker.
The solution has already seen success in Europe and North America to protect construction workers as well as those in gas pipeline maintenance and security. Additionally, the solution has been deployed in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Central America for use on oil rigs, transport, forestry and in emergency situations.
"The pairing of the high quality Sonim GPS cell phone with the world class emergency monitoring and response services of GEOS has resulted in a safety and security program second to none," says Bob Davis, President of GEOS Travel & Safety Group.
"Sonim and SafeLinQ have collaborated to provide the world's most rugged mobile phone combined with custom software to communicate with GEOS, the world's most reliable Global Response Centre. The combination of these valuable assets will save many lives over the coming years," says Martijn van Bree, CEO of SafeLinQ in a statement.
