After several years of delays, the first of four phases of the Second Avenue Subway project is finally underway, with a completion date of 2016. The effort will create a two-track line along Second Avenue from 125th street to the Financial District in Lower Manhattan, with 16 new stations.

The MTA recently released photos of the construction work, which take on a decidedly post-apocalyptic hue. Check out the progress below:
